St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Annandale, VA, (Fairfax County) seeks a Director of Christian Education who will assist the congregation in building a solid foundation for Christian formation, spirituality, stewardship, ministry, and outreach.  The DCE works under the direction of the rector and in conjunction with lay leaders by supporting volunteer teachers and assistants, and coordinating activities among ministries, as needed.  The position is part time, 40 hours per month.   St.  Barnabas’ is diverse community of faith which offers Christian education for children and teens, and presentations for adults. St. Barnabas’ has a strong commitment to caring for parishioners and to outreach in the community.

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree; experience working with young people in an educational, extracurricular, and/or faith-based context, or similar experience.  Candidate should have certification in SAFE church practices or willingness to be trained.  Candidate should be able to work within an Episcopal or Lutheran theological context, and in an environment that welcomes and celebrates diversity of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, race, and class.  The ideal candidate also will have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the ability to work with committees and/or workgroups.
